National Associations Collaborate to Create Core Competencies for Graduate Dental Hygiene Education (Washington, DC) - Educational guidelines for those receiving graduate degrees in dental hygiene have been released from the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) and the American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA). The Core Competencies for Graduate Dental Hygiene Education identify eight “core competency domains” or general categories of educational content and establish benchmarks for educational quality, particularly with respect to curriculum development and enhancement. ADHA Welcomes Institute of Medicine Report on Improving Access to Oral Health Care
The investigation into innovative ways to increase the public’s access to oral health care continued to build momentum this week as the Institute of Medicine (IOM) released its report, "Improving Access to Oral Health Care for Vulnerable and Underserved Populations." This thorough report was the result of more than a year of effort by an IOM appointed committee to examine the evidence regarding the disparities in access to oral health care in this nation and issue a call for a renewed commitment to tackling this challenge.
