Jamie Nelson
President Elect

My name is Jamie Nelson and I am a native of Oxford, Ms. After graduating from Lafayette High School in 2003, I attended Delta State University where I took prerequisite courses for Dental Hygiene and became a member of the Phi Mu Sorority. In 2005, I transferred to the University of Mississippi Medical Center after being accepted into the Dental Hygiene program. While a student, I became very involved at UMC. I served one term as the Student Body President for the School of Health Related Professions and also the President for the Student American Dental Hygienists’ Association. In 2006, I was chosen to represent District VI as the Student Delegate for ADHA. This position allowed me to promote my passion for Dental Hygiene and the exciting coming advancements for the future.
I obtained my Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene in May of 2007. I am currently practicing full time at Oxford Dental, where I have been a patient since the age of 5. I am proud to serve my home community of Oxford by taking care of others dental needs. I believe providing oral health education and patient care are critical for each person’s overall health. I look forward to promoting such a great career by serving as President for the Mississippi Dental Hygienists’ Association next year!

My name is Linda Zakkak from Gulfport, MS. I will serve as the MDHA treasurer for the 2009 -2011 term. I graduated from the University of Tel-Aviv; Israel with my dental hygiene degree in 1993 and in 2006 received my BA in accounting from the University of Southern Mississippi. I moved to Mississippi in 1997 with my husband and fell in love with the wonderful southern hospitality and set out to make it our home. I now have two children, Maggie (10) and Jon-Thomas (7).
I practice clinical dental hygiene for a wonderful general and cosmetic dentist now but have worked in periodontal practices prior to that. Pride in my profession got me involved in our Gulf Coast component which in turn lead to the State level. I served as President in 2006 – 2007. My goal was to expand the involvement of all dental hygienists in their local component, spread the word of our organization throughout the state, and work on getting our membership up. There is power in numbers!!! If you are not a member yet please consider it seriously, the MDHA and ADHA are your advocate and your voice.

Membership and Legislative Chair

My name is Janet Brice McMurphy from Biloxi, MS. . I am serving as your legislative and membership chairperson this year. Based on my past experience lobbying to stop perceptorship in our state, I realize the importance of a numbers(members) at the state level. Unfortunately, only 10% of us are members of ADHA. Having ADHA to back us in our legislative battles is essential in our success. I graduated from the University of Mississippi Medical Center, School of Health Related Professions just yesterday. I work in general dentistry and have been at my present job for 17 years now. My husband, Tim, and I have been married for 28 yearsand have 2 sons, Brice, 21, and Austin, 19. They attend LSU and are majoring in biological sciences with aspirations of going to dental school. May as well keep it all in the family as my brother is Dr. Buddy Brice, a pediatric dentist in Biloxi.
