The 83rd MDHA Annual Session was held Friday, April 1, 2011 in Oxford, MS at the Oxford Conference Center. We had the largest attendance ever with 198 Hygienists and students combined. 7 Continuing Education Credits were awarded. 12 dental companies were represented at the meeting to introduce new products.
Ms. Casey Hein, BSDH, MBA, started the day off with a presentation regarding the role of oral health care providers in addressing obesity. Casey is a nationally known speaker and has been featured several RDH magazines. With over 30 years of experience as a dental hygienist in private practice, education, public health, and consulting, Casey Hein is best recognized for her work in clinical integration of well supported evidence of oral-systemic relationships in dentistry, medicine, and allied healthcare. This is the mainstay of over 100 published articles and international lectures, highly attended by non-dental healthcare practitioners, as well as oral healthcare practitioners.
During the lunch hour, members of MDHA met to vote and install new officers for the year.
The afternoon session was led by Dr. Michael Perry who spoke on periodontal disease: diagnosing, treatment planning, and transitioning into dental implants. Dr. Michael M. Perry graduated from Baylor College of Dentistry Graduate
Periodontics. He was awarded the distinguished John F. Prichard Award for research in
Bone Grafting and Implant Dentistry. Dr. Perry’s professional interests include dental
implants and cosmetic gum surgery. He enjoys hearing the satisfaction and joy that
implant dentistry brings to patients, restoring health to patients dealing with the long
term side effects such as heart disease and diabetes of periodontal disease.
A big Thanks to all who attended and made this year’s MDHA Annual Session the best yet!
