We had an exciting and successful 81st Annual Session in Cleveland, MS at Delta State University. Dental Hygienists and students were able to receive some quality continuing education requirements geared to dental hygienist. They were given time to network and socialize with others of their profession, and the opportunity to make new acquaintances, check out the latest products, and vote in upcoming MDHA elections.
There were fifty-four hygienists, two dentists, plus forty students signed in at annual session for a total of ninety-six in attendance. We presented two speakers for a total of six CE Credits. Information on speakers and programs presented are below:
Victoria Richards, RDH, BS Topic: “Oral DNA”
DH’s now have available a state-of-art microbiological test that provides a comprehensive, detailed bacterial analysis of periodontal infection. This is an informative presentation about the microscopic world of perio disease and what new researched based testing and treatment modalities are available for use in the dental practice today.
Carol Jahn, RDH, MS Topic: Child & Adolescent Health: New Challenges for the 21st Century
Course objectives: To provide the participant with an enhanced understanding of the emerging health issues facing children and adolescents and their impact on oral health. Topics include exposure to tobacco, asthma, obesity, the rising incidence of pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes, HPV and oral cancer, and preventive strategies for caries and gingivitis.
A Saturday, March 28, 2009 Breakfast Buffet was held at Airport Grocery sponsored by Henry Schein
Dental Suppliers.

“Stop Stringing Me Along” Strategies to Improve Relationships with Co-workers and Patients
Course objectives: To provide the participant with the leadership/behavioral skills for enhancing relationships with co-workers and patients. Provides the behavioral rationale and scientific evidence to help practitioners recommend proven alternatives to dental floss which includes topics defined as: skills/practices for effective leadership, conflict management, elements that contribute to behavior change, Floss: origin and cultural aspects and alternative interdental aids
There was a “Social” on Friday night at Crawdad’s in Merigold, MS at 7:00 pm sponsored by Darby Dental Suppliers and Central Mississippi Dental Hygiene Association
